There was a time when I snubbed audiobooks. I was a hard book snob. But once I came upon a job that required a 70 mile commute each way, audiobooks saved my life. Audiobooks, however, are only as good as the narrator. No one wants to listen to a drab monotone voice, it's all about the inflection and varied character intonations. Interestingly enough, my worst audiobook experiences have been when authors choose to narrate their own works...ew..I have yet to encounter an author read audiobook that I didn't have to struggle through.

Which brings me to the Emma Djan Series by Kwei Quartey. The series is in my top three faves of audiobooks.

Emma is a young Ghanaian woman detective who bravely untangles the most bizarre mysteries. The audiobooks for this series are amazing and perfectly complimentary to Kwei Quartey's dynamic story lines which explore many social and economic struggles across the continent. The accents are intricate and specific to the varied dialects in the motherland. To date, there are four books in the series:

1) The Missing American

2) Sleep Well My Lady

3) Last Seen in Lapaz

4) The White Washed Tombs
